The Queen’s

Platinum Jubilee 2022

Events in Killearn

Communities across the UK are coming together between Thursday, 2  June and Sunday, 5 June as part of the celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee! Here in Killearn, we have two key Platinum Jubilee events for residents to join in – a Jubilee Beacon Lighting ceremony on the Thursday and a Big Jubilee Lunch celebration on the Sunday.

Jubilee Beacon Lighting ceremony

More than 1,500 Platinum Jubilee beacons will be lit throughout the UK and beyond, including one in Killearn. But before that in the Village Hall you can view the Seven Decades of Royal Service display by Killearn Primary School. During the evening there will be a free quiz for children and a slightly tougher quiz for adults (entry fee) with funds raised going to the DEC Appeal for Ukraine. Treat yourself to some “al fresco” dining as both Turnip the Beet and The Kitchen Window will be offering tasty delights outside. And stalls of local organisations and beyond will be there for you to peruse. The culmination of the evening is at twilight with the Beacon being lit. Do join us in this unique, memorable and fun event! Thursday 2 June 7.30pm-10pm Village Hall and the Glebe field.

Big Jubilee Lunch

Whether it’s sharing a cuppa with a neighbour or a bigger bash in the street, after the last couple of years we could really do with something to encourage local interaction and boost community spirits. Killearn Community Futures Company is encouraging locally organised lunches (or teas) by signposting guidance to help every street organise their own Big Jubilee Lunch celebration. Ideas and information can be found here. We are designing Killearn Big Jubilee Lunch invitations for you to download, customise and print for your event. Meanwhile, with some residents living in remote farms or houses, a “street lunch” is more challenging. So the Kirk and the Village Hall will have bookable tables in their grounds, so everyone can take the chance to celebrate. Sunday 5 June, from 1pm.

Anyone wanting more information about ‘Big Lunching’ at the Killearn Kirk/Village Halls can ring or email – you can book a table or a seat at a table and can come along on your own or with a friend/s – just bring your own lunch and a jubilee spirit to share with others around you.

To tell others about your lunch and to help your organisation we have a Killearn Platinum Jubilee Facebook page where you can post your lunch as an “event” (guidance on how to do this is on the Facebook page).

As we approach the month of June, please return to this page or follow us on Facebook  to discover new and updated information about the village Jubilee celebrations. If you have questions or information on other village Jubilee events you can email at or use our online form.
