SUSTAINABLE KILLEARN

Killearn Community Council held a successful one-day event on making Killearn  a more eco-friendly, more energy efficient village.

As a result of this event, a new KCFC group called Sustainable Killearn has been formed under the leadership of Heather Wright who has agreed to become a director. The group will try and make Killearn a “greener” place

If you are interested in joining this group, please contact Heather by phoning 01360 551215.

KILLEARN VILLAGE HALL

NEWS UPDATE

KCFC is now the proud owner of the Village Hall which has now been transferred from Stirling Council.

We apologise for the delay in starting the project, there were a number of unforeseen legal obstacles to surmount. It is now hoped that the refurbishment of the hall will start in Spring 2012.

KILLEARN HOOLIE

The 2012 Hoolie will take place on Saturday, 16 June 2012.

The week-long festivities start on Sunday, 10 June with the Family Fun Run, and we will also have the popular street football, an art display in the Panik Gallery, along with many other favourites from 2010 and new for 2012 will be the Teddy Bear's picnic in the park.

The committee have reviewed the successful 2010 Hoolie and have decided to keep the popular elements but to add a few new surprises. Next year the Old Mill will run a beer festival, serving Scottish beer produced by micro-breweries during the gala day. We are currently busy organising the new attractions to take place in the main arena. Over the winter months we will be meeting and pulling together our resources to produce a fun-packed family week of events that will celebrate our beautiful village.

Since 2010, the Hoolie has donated funds to the following groups: Killearn Toddlers Group, Killearn Primary School, Killearn Brownies, Get Reel, Killearn Football Club and All Killearn Archive.

KILLEARN WOODLAND CEMETERY

A new group aims to improve the Woodland Cemetery in Gartness Road and are currently fund-raising.

This environmentally-friendly burial site is fairly new and needs to be made a more attractive place for visitors to enjoy the peace and tranquility while coming to remember loved ones or just visiting.

A circular seating area is planned, surrounded by a dry stone wall. There will be a central standing stone. There will be means of attaching memorial plaques and information about the cemetery.

Wild flowers will be panted to beautify the site and willow to improve drainage.

To donate, contact:  Peter Wilks (01360 550269).
